Four Seasons Maldives Surfing Champions Trophy, August 2023

Lay-day Called at Four Seasons Resort Maldives Surfing Champions

Kuda Huraa, Maldives, Wednesday, August 28th: Despite contestable waves at Sultans Point today, a lay-day has been called at the Four Seasons Resorts Maldives Surfing Champions Trophy with organisers opting to hold out for the more favourable conditions forecast.

“The waves are still fun, but better surf is predicted over the next few days and this call offers the surfers a chance to get in some practice time on their twin fins,” said Contest Director Ross Phillips.

Yesterday former three time world surfing champion Tom Curren (USA), 49, defeated Pedro Henrique (BRZ), 31, to win the Single Fin Division at the third annual event.

Boasting an incredible 15 world titles amongst the six competitors, the performance level was top flight from the opening round through to the final with defending event champion Damien Hardman (Aus), Layne Beachley (Aus), Tom Carrroll (Aus) and Taylor Knox (USA) all included in the invitational line-up.

Conditions will again be re-accessed tomorrow morning at 8am for a possible start for the Twin Fin Division.

The three fin Thruster Division will then remain the next division to be staged and will  decide the two surfers qualifying for the all important final.
