'King of the carve' Taylor Knox to defend his Four Seasons title
A unique event on the surfing calendar, the invitation-only contest sees six ex-World Champions battle it out across three divisions of board – retro single-fin, twin-fin and contemporary triple-fin – for kudos and the US$ 25,000 purse.
“I’m totally stoked to be taking part again this year,” commented American legend Knox. “It’s such an awesome contest. I mean, what could be better than a few days hanging out on the Maldives’ breaks for some friendly wave rivalry, then chilling out in paradise in the evenings? I can’t wait to see who I’ll be pitted against this year!”
The competition is hosted onboard the luxury Four Seasons Explorer – the Maldives’ ultimate surf vessel – with a limited number of exclusive day-passes for fans to get up close and personal with all the action. Spectators get to stay on Four Seasons Resort Kuda Huraa’s 96-bungalow private island with the competitors and judges for an incredible inner-circle surfing lifestyle experience.
Event co-ordinator Mark Winson of Tropicsurf said, “The Maldives and Kuda Huraa surf scene really comes alive at this time of year. In its fourth year now, the competition is generating a real buzz – enough to entice some legends out of retirement! And it’s great for the sport in general; all the up and coming surfers get the opportunity to see their heroes in action – it’s inspirational stuff.”
Limited day passes will be available (at a fee) for non-package guests and members of the public wishing to view the event from Four Seasons Explorer. Call + 960 66 44 888 for enquiries and rates.
Day three of the Four Seasons Maldives Surfing Champions Trophy followed a similar storyline to the previous rounds of competition as Joel Parkinson once again topped Adriano de Souza in their third straight final of the week.
